Electrical current is present in the water and warm saltwater enhances it's power. The current comes from several sources- docks, surrounding boats, the boat itself. Just warm saltwater itself has compounds that are electrically charged by nature- so seawater gives off current.

Zincs are sacrificial anode metal pieces containing zinc metal. They attach securely to shafts, trim tabs, boat transom, hull, rudders, struts, and bow thrusters. The zinc corrodes and sacrifices it's metal to protect all underwater metals on the boat from corroding themselves.

Bottom paint has biocides in it to repel marine growth which attaches to everything underwater- nature😀. The biocides repel barnacles, algae, tubeworms, mussels, clams, and oysters. Depending on the quality and application of bottom paint- biocides will last 12- 16 months and after that time period it stops repelling marine growth.

New bottom paint helps keep marine growth from attaching to the boat bottom and the bottom will be cleaner and smoother when running the boat.

As the paint ages it stops from repelling and the bottom will get heavily fouled with barnacles, tubeworms, mussels, clams, oysters, grasses, and several types of algae.

A boat cannot run effectively with a fouled bottom.
